As leading figures we are finished.
Let's withdraw and dedicate ourselves to landscape painting.

"The artist as a leading figure is finished", was a headline by Wolfgang Max Faust in one of the 1990's illustrious art magazines. The longing for authenticity, which the figure of the artist had sparked, was extinguished by the caprioles of the art market. The promise of modernity that art and life would intertwine had become an emaciated rhethoric figure. The brighter the light had been projected on the artist, the more lusty became his deconstruction.
